Waterfront Lifeguard – Seasonal Full time

Position Summary

Girls Inc. of Worcester is seeking a qualified, safety-focused Lifeguard to support our summer camp waterfront programming. The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of campers and staff during all aquatic activities by maintaining constant supervision, enforcing safety procedures, preventing accidents, and responding to emergencies.

The ideal candidate holds a current American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding certification and has experience working with youth. Candidates who also possess a Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification and can provide swim instruction are strongly preferred.

Responsibilities: 

Aquatic Safety & Supervision

  • Maintain continuous surveillance of campers and staff participating in waterfront and aquatic activities.
  • Enforce all waterfront, pool, and camp safety rules and procedures.
  • Identify and eliminate hazardous conditions to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Perform water rescues and provide emergency response services when necessary.
  • Administer First Aid, CPR, and AED care until emergency medical personnel arrive.
  • Complete incident, accident, and rescue reports in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Participate in emergency drills and safety trainings.

Swim Instruction & Program Support

  • Assess camper swim abilities and assist with swim testing procedures.
  • Provide swim instruction and water safety education appropriate to participants' age and skill level.
  • Support aquatic programming, recreational swim periods, and waterfront activities.
  • Assist in developing a positive, inclusive, and engaging aquatic environment for all campers.

Camp Operations

  • Maintain attendance records and ensure accurate participant accountability during aquatic activities.
  • Conduct routine inspections of waterfront areas, equipment, and safety supplies.
  • Assist with setup, cleanup, and maintenance of aquatic equipment and facilities.
  • Model professionalism and positive youth development practices.
  • Collaborate with camp staff to ensure safe and successful daily operations.
  • Attend all required pre-camp trainings, staff meetings, and professional development sessions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: 

This full time seasonal role requires 40 hours per week with flexibility to accommodate evening and weekend programming.

Camp Kinneywood Summer Schedule either will be:

  • Monday–Friday: 9:00-6:00 pm  
  • Monday–Friday: 9:30-6:30 pm

Both options have an hour lunch break

Qualifications: 
  • 6 months–1 year of experience directly related to lifeguarding responsibilities.
  • Current American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR, and AED certification.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical skills evaluation (per American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard standards).
  • Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions.
  • Water Safety Instructor Certification preferred.
  • Must participate in staff training before camp begins. June 23-26th 2026
  • Must be able to provide swim instruction.
  • Must successfully pass a comprehensive background check with fingerprinting (applicant responsible for $30–$50 fee).
