Theatre Under the Stars Presents Snoopy the musical

The Theatre Under the Stars program was first implemented in the summer of 2002 and was so well received that Girls Inc. has continued to incorporate it into the annual Camp Kinneywood summer program offerings.  We believe that this theatre series is unique in that it offers the opportunity for families to interact in a positive way, while exploring areas of music, acting and performance that might not otherwise be available to them.

Girls Inc's computer Lab is getting a "Extreme Makeover - Camp Reach Edition!"  Thirty young women entering seventh grade from across Central MA have been at Worcester Polytechnic Institute for Camp Reach, a two-week residential program for girls interested in pursuing a career in engineering. TEAM GIRLS INC "adopted" us and our project - to redesign our computer lab to make it more comfortable, welcoming, and an environment conducive to learning.

Back from vacation and celebrating the summer programs

After spending my one week vacation driving to California, I have jumped right back into the wonderful world of Girls Inc. 

  • This week a group of 10 middle school girls had a jumpin' week of fun and exercise of Double Dutch Jumprope sponsored by the Red Auerbach Foundation. 
  • Over 70 children and youth had a great time at Camp Kinneywood, even in the rain! We appreciated Ms. Susan Sullivan's Letter to the Editor in the T&G last week.

Weekend Family Friendly Pool Program

Girls Incorporated of Worcester will Girls Inc. is offering free family swim from July 11 to August 16, 2009 on Saturdays from 11am -6 pm and Sundays from 12-5 pm at the Fuller Foundation Aquatic Center, 125 Providence Street, Worcester, MA. All children will be accompanied by a parent or guardian over the age of 18.

This week has opened a whole new world to 9 young Middle School aged women and me - the world of HOW TO THINK LIKE LEONARDO DA VINCI!!  Based on Clark Alum Michael Gelb's book How To Think Like Leonardo DaVinci, these young women, along with several Girls Inc staff and volunteers are half-way through a journey focused on the seven principles: Curiosity, Learning by Doing; Sensory Learning; Sfumato (you have to look that one up!); Body/Mind connection; Art/Science Connection; and How Everything in Connected!  We have studied Leonardo, practiced some yoga, gone on urban hikes and swimming;...

New Program Offering ~ Lady Leonardos: Geniuses in the Making!

Girls Inc a Partner in the Worcester Summer Pool Program

The recently dedicated Fuller Aquatics Center at Girls Inc on Providence Street will be a busy place this summer.  A public-private partnership was formed with three other youth serving agencies (YMCA, YWCA, & Boys and Girls Club), community based youth serving organizations and the City of Worcester over the last few weeks to address some of the needs created when the decision was made to close the City pools this summer.  Through the City Manager's office, Community Based Organizations will be able to coordinate swim times for their members through this program, with possible
