Building CEV prototypes at the Stem Lab

August 5, 2010 - 10:24am -- leadacademy

On August 4,

Goddard Girls have achieved to make prototypes of their own CEVs (Crew Exploration Vehicles) and presented with confidence. Our prototypes were made out of recyclable materials. Each CEV had fufil the requested nessesities when going to space by making the material represent them. Everyone worked as a team and we pulled it through. The whole day had been planed out and with that being said we spent the whole day there. Can't wait to enjoy the next days here!

Shine like the stars Goddard Girls

August 5, 2010 - 10:24am -- leadacademy

Yesterday we mostly stayed at the University of Massetusetts. We first start of doing a project seeing how your leg can change size by 10 minutes. Then we went into the lab and talked about what a CEV really means. NASA obviously use CEV's but the interesting thing is that the sattlites are retiring in two years. So with that subject  we are building are "fake" CEV's, but we have to make rough drafts first. Next we ate yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyuuuuuummmyyyyyyyyyy pizza! After that we built are CEV's and interview are CEV's to everybody.Lastly we took a long walk to the sign of UMass to take a picture...

fun days

August 5, 2010 - 10:13am -- leadacademy

umm the other day when we went to umass i had so much fun we did alot of stuff in 1 day. wow..... i didnt no that we can do that we bilt this linggy idk wat its called but we did that n toke a pic n ya so then we tryed dry ice cream n that all pce...........................

Umass Campus!!

this is picture of a CEV

August 4, 2010............

Today we went to the Umass campus to create CEV's, which stansds for Crew Exploration Vehicle. We learned that when astronauts first travel into space they feel like they have a cold and the upper part of the face gets puffy. Which causes them a reaction not to feel thirsty because of the fluid shift that increases the blood volume. the food that astronauts carry are dehydrated because theres no water in space. We did a lesson on how to stimulate the fluid shift felt by astronauts upon entering space. Which was really cool cause you could actually feel on...

A Day in being an Engineer

August 5, 2010 - 10:09am -- leadacademy

Ahh another in space was thrilling........Nahh sike we were in Umass campus creating prototype CEV. What is that you asked? Well CEV is crew exploration vehicles that go into space. Well it was all fun and games till lunch arrived

The Girls at the STEM Lab

August 5, 2010 - 9:58am -- leadacademy

8 - 4- 10

At the STEM Lab, a part of UMASS, the Goddard girls did numerous things. We saw what happened to our legs when the force of gravity was changed by leaning them against a wall at 90 degrees, and measuring certain points in our leg, then standing and measuring the same point, then seeing what part of our legs expanded or contracted due to the change in gravity force.

Later we designed and built prototypes for CEV's, or Crew Exploration Vehicles. My team and I just modified a CEV that was made last week by the Davinci Diva's, which I was in, and it was done before most...

Goddard Girls

August 5, 2010 - 9:57am -- leadacademy

Yesterday we went to the Stem Lab in Worcester. We all did an activity called Leg Up, this activity wasnt all that fun but it was very educational, the activity was to simulate the problems that the astronauts have in space. We worked on that activity for a while and then we talked about it and what we found. After that we had about a half an hour to desighn a CEV which is a space vehichle. That was pretty fun. Then it was lunch time PIZZA! very good. Afterwards we built our CEV and then we presented it this was a pretty fun day.

stem labratory

August 5, 2010 - 9:57am -- leadacademy

During my third day at goddard girls summer program, we went to the umass stem labratory and I had lots of fun. In the morning, I did an experiment on body fluids and leg circumference. I learned that on Earth your body fluid is below heart level, but on the moon the water or H2o in your body is the same in all parts of the body. It is because of this that astronauts do not feel thirsty. In the afternoon, I really enjoyed designing, building, and demonstrating my cev. I learned that CEV is an acronym that stands for crew explorartion vehicle. The most fun part of today was talking with Mrs...

Cev Creativity

August 5, 2010 - 9:56am -- leadacademy

The Goddard Girls went to the STEM lab again yesterday. First we talked about how astronauts feel on space and how they feel when their fluid travel up and around thier bodies due the anti-gravity in space. Then we started to design our CEV's [crew exploration vehicle]. We finished buliding them after lunch and they looked really nice as the finished product. The we all took a little walk to take a picture at the Umass sign and went home. So  Far, So good! :]

ASTRONAUTS

August 5, 2010 - 9:54am -- leadacademy

Yesterday we wnet to the Stem Lab and we built CEVs which stands for  Crew Exploration Vehicles. When we were there we also measured  the circumferences of our claves, ankle and thighs. I learned a lot about the importance of teamwork yesterday becaue if you go to space with a crew you need to be able to communicate with each other without fighting all the time because then you'll definitely get nothing done. Thte CEVS we built came rather nice if I do say so myself. I was proud of the creativity of all the girls. We also tried some dehydrated food.....to be honest with you I thought that...
