Career Pathways Program Specialist

Summary of Position

The Career Pathways Program Specialist plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations, implementation, and quality of Girls Inc. of Worcester's Career Pathways Department. This position assists with the coordination of STEM, career readiness, workforce development, mentorship, college and career exploration, and leadership programming serving youth ages 11–24.

The Specialist supports Program Facilitators, mentors, volunteers, interns, and community partners while helping ensure high-quality programming across multiple locations. This role also provides administrative support, participant tracking, event coordination, and direct facilitation of programming as needed. The Career Pathways Program Specialist models positive youth development practices while ensuring every participant experiences a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment.

Responsibilities: 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

Program Operations & Leadership

  • Foster a positive, equitable, accessible, and supportive environment for all participants.
  • Assist with daily operations of Career Pathways programming including scheduling support, program logistics, supply preparation, participant tracking, and program coordination.
  • Support Program Facilitators through coaching, modeling, and day-to-day operational assistance.
  • Step into classrooms or program spaces to facilitate STEM, leadership, mentorship, financial literacy, college readiness, workforce development, or career exploration activities when needed.
  • Assist with onboarding and supporting volunteers, mentors, interns, guest speakers, and community partners during programming.
  • Prepare materials, technology, supplies, and curriculum resources for programming and special events.
  • Ensure program spaces remain organized, welcoming, safe, and fully equipped.
  • Support implementation of Girls Inc. Headquarters curriculum and evidence-based programming while adapting activities to meet participant needs.
  • Assist with participant recruitment, outreach, enrollment, and retention efforts.

Participant Support

  • Build positive relationships with youth ages 11–24 through mentoring, encouragement, and consistent support.
  • Address participant behavior using trauma-informed, restorative justice, and non-violent communication practices.
  • Encourage youth participation in leadership opportunities, mentorship, internships, college readiness, and workforce development experiences.
  • Provide individual support and referrals to supervisors when participant concerns arise.
  • Assist participants in navigating program expectations, schedules, and opportunities.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate attendance records and participant databases.
  • Assist with data collection for grants, program outcomes, surveys, evaluations, and reporting requirements.
  • Prepare participant files and ensure documentation remains organized and confidential.
  • Support communication with participants, families, schools, mentors, and community partners.
  • Assist with event registrations, transportation coordination, calendars, and scheduling.
  • Support preparation of reports, program metrics, and success stories.

Partnership & Event Support

  • Assist with coordinating employer visits, college tours, STEM activities, career fairs, workshops, and mentorship events.
  • Welcome and support community partners, volunteers, guest speakers, and corporate groups during programming.
  • Assist with setup, breakdown, registration, photography, and logistics during special events.
  • Support outreach efforts that strengthen partnerships with colleges, universities, businesses, and nonprofit organizations.

Communication

  • Communicate professionally with participants, caregivers, schools, mentors, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Collaborate effectively with Career Pathways staff and cross-functional departments.
  • Escalate participant concerns or safety issues promptly.
  • Maintain confidentiality while following all Girls Inc. policies and procedures.

Other Responsibilities

  • Attend department meetings, agency meetings, professional development, and required trainings.
  • Participate in continuous quality improvement efforts.
  • Support curriculum development and continuous program innovation.
  • Maintain CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Event & Transportation Responsibilities

  • Attend evening and weekend programming, workshops, field trips, conferences, and community events as assigned.
  • Maintain reliable personal transportation between program sites and community partner locations.
  • Travel locally throughout Worcester County as needed.

Physical Requirements

  • Walk, stand, and actively engage with participants throughout programming.
  • Lift and carry up to 25 pounds for program setup and event materials.
  • Set up classrooms, STEM equipment, event materials, and technology.
Work Schedule: 

This part-time position requires a 10-hour work week, with flexibility to accommodate evening and weekend programming. During Career Pathways Programming

Programming typically runs Tuesday-Thursday 4:30-7:30 pm and Saturdays 9:00 am-12:00 pm

Qualifications: 
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Completed 10th grade and actively working toward high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 6 months to 1 year of experience working with youth in group settings.
  • Skilled in youth engagement, communication, and team collaboration.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing youth programs preferred
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail and maintaining accurate records
  • Mature, responsible, organized, with strong time management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to solve problems and make improvements
  • Ability to be certified in CPR and First Aid.
  • Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check with fingerprinting prior to hiring. Fingerprinting costs ($30–$50) are the responsibility of the applicant.
  • Bilingual preferred.
Salary and Application Information: 

Pay Rate: $18-20/Hour dependent on experience
