Girls Celebration Event
Girls Celebration Events!
Last week was a really great week here at Girls Inc of Worcester.
On Monday, I went to the Statehouse in Boston with Sandy Mayrand from UMass' Regional Science Resource Center for the announcement of the Summer of Innovation grants from NASA. We are partnered with UMass for 2 great weeks of STEM programming in late July and early August. Planning for these programs starts this week, so check back for details!
WOW! It has been a long time since I posted anything on the blog -- that's because I have been so busy doing so many exciting things!
Three weeks ago Felicia Riffelmacher, 2nd VP on the Board and I attended the Girls Inc National Conference in Washington DC. It was a great opportunity for us to participate in conversations with other CEOs and Board members from affiliates across the country. All of us celebrated and bid farewell to Joyce Roche, our outgoing National CEO and welcomed Judy Vredenburgh, the new CEO. We also spent a day on Capitol Hill.

Thursday's Girls' Celebration Event was my best day so far in 8 months and 1 week! Mayor Konnie Lukes talked about her experiences in the Girls Club in Waterbury, CT as she proclaimed Thursday Girls Celebration Day in Worcester; the trustees of the Fuller Foundation received a picture/citation, and their very own, and very special "admission ticket" to use the Fuller Foundation pool at Girls Inc this summer; Linda Cavaioli and Jean King each received standing ovations to honor them as advocates for girls; and Jennifer Paradee gave us such a beautiful - and enduring - gift of th
Girls Inc a Partner in the Worcester Summer Pool Program
The recently dedicated Fuller Aquatics Center at Girls Inc on Providence Street will be a busy place this summer. A public-private partnership was formed with three other youth serving agencies (YMCA, YWCA, & Boys and Girls Club), community based youth serving organizations and the City of Worcester over the last few weeks to address some of the needs created when the decision was made to close the City pools this summer. Through the City Manager's office, Community Based Organizations will be able to coordinate swim times for their members through this program, with possibleJune 12, 2009
Girls Celebration - A Very Special Event!
Thursday afternoon, June 11, over 150 friends - old and new - gathered at Girls Inc's Winthrop House for a CELEBRATION event. We honored Dr. Jean King and Linda Cavaioli as our 2009 Advocates for Girls, dedicated The George F. and Sybil H. Fuller Foundation Aquatics Center and unveiled the beautiful Giving Tree mural, handcrafted for us by Jennifer Paradee. "I saw so many old friends that it was like a family reunion," said Maureen Gray, Board member at the end of the event. "They were so glad to be back."June 12, 2009
Girls Celebration Countdown Continues....
The countdown to the big day is going by quickly! The Silent Auction baskets are coming together with great opportunities inside each one! The beautiful new mosaic will be installed this week. The food is ordered... and the barbeque will be awesome!
It's like Christmas in June! Hope you can join us! The funds we will raise go to our summer programs. How much better than that can it get?? Tell your friends --
At Girls Inc, we are on the countdown to the Girls Celebration Event on June 11th. It is the day we invite friends from across Central MA to celebrate the girls in our community, and say a special thanks to individuals who advocate for girls everyday.
