News Updates and Fun Things....

April 30, 2010 - 2:00pm -- cathisblog

WOW!  It has been a long time since I posted anything on the blog -- that's because I have been so busy doing so many exciting things!

Three weeks ago Felicia Riffelmacher, 2nd VP on the Board and I attended the Girls Inc National Conference in Washington DC.  It was a great opportunity for us to participate in conversations with other CEOs and Board members from affiliates across the country.  All of us celebrated and bid farewell to Joyce Roche, our outgoing National CEO and welcomed Judy Vredenburgh, the new CEO.  We also spent a day on Capitol Hill.

I got back in time to make a presentation at the Worcester Rotary and be the "Facebook Friend of the Day" on WSRS where I won a $50 gift certificate to the Niche Restaurant Group which I donated to the Girls Celebration Event Silent Auction - the Girls Celebration Event is scheduled for Thursday, May 13 from 5-7 at the Blais Pavilion at the Aaron Lazarre Building at UMass Memorial's University Campus.  Tickets are $25 and available from Anne Sadick at 508-755-6455 x11.

Over the school vacation week, the middle school girls went with Girls Inc's Kijah Clark to 4 regional colleges and a Youth Leadership Conference.

Last weekend was the 17th Annual Taking Steps To End Violence Against Women and Children walk which was wonderfully successful!  Before the walk I did a radio show with both Jen Carter (WXLO) and Mark Veau (WORC) to talk about the need to end violence, the walk and the great work of the three partner agencies The Rape Crisis Center, the YWCA and Girls Inc!

Wednesday evening I attended the Worcester Community Action Council's 45th Anniversary event and was delighted to briefly meet Victoria Reggie-Kennedy.  Today, Dean Theodore represented Girls Inc at the YWCA-sponsored STAND AGAINST RACISM.  This morning I was on the radio again on WESO's MOney Matter's morning show with Joe Mangiacotti!

Like I said, it's been busy.  Check back next week for more updates on the happenings at Girls Inc of Worcester.
