NASA Summer of Innovation
-
Today was the first day of Goddard Girls. At first, it was really quiet beacause only the Davinci Divas knew each other, but then everyone started to talk and it became more lively. We first talked space and what NASA is. Then we moved on to our first activity and tried to survive in Jamestown with our groups. Then we went to the STEM lab and tried to survive on the moon in 2025. Next we built moon habitats. It was a lot of work, but it was really fun in the end when we put them all together. And we all had our pedometers today. Some girls got up to 2000 steps, but I only got about 1097.

Today we learned a lot about survival. We even did survival activities of back then and the future. I learned that one of the most important items for survival is oxygen, food and water. Without any of these things you probably wouldn't be able to survive. We also went to the stem lab and built moon habitats. We learned that moon habitats are for humans when they land on the moon.

My teamates and I had a ball trying to figure out how to roll the paper in those little tube things, then trying to start a structure.

Girls Celebration Events!
Last week was a really great week here at Girls Inc of Worcester.
On Monday, I went to the Statehouse in Boston with Sandy Mayrand from UMass' Regional Science Resource Center for the announcement of the Summer of Innovation grants from NASA. We are partnered with UMass for 2 great weeks of STEM programming in late July and early August. Planning for these programs starts this week, so check back for details!
