Message from the Board President

Dear Friends and Families of Girls Inc.:

Another summer has come and gone and the crisp air of fall is upon us as we are focused on the future of another successful year at Girls Inc. The staff and board are excited to have many projects underway that will continue to enhance our programs that serve over 3,900 girls annually.

At the forefront of our projects this year, is a 24' by 64' pavilion that will span the waterfront, complimented by 16 picnic tables and 3 benches donated by generous supporters of Girls Inc. It will be used for many future events as well as offer shelter to our campers during the hot summer months. The pavilion will be built in memory of Orville R. Harrold, past President of The Providence and Worcester Railroad Company, for his spirited involvement and personal investments, which has enabled Girls Inc. to provide summer camp scholarship assistance to over 1,000 economically disadvantaged children. As Mr. Harrold once said, "All you have to do is visit Camp Kinneywood and see all those smiling faces to know this is all worth while."

Thanks to the George F. and Sybil H. Fuller Foundation for their generous funding, our swimming pool has undergone many repairs and renova+ tions. Anew ventilation, heating and air conditioning system has been installed to help control humidity in the pool area. Seeing the walls with a fresh coat of paint (and plans for a wall mural to be painted in the near future), the pool has never looked better and is still enjoyed as a favorite activity of all Girls Inc. members throughout the year.

The Girls Inc. "Former Girls Club" Alumni Committee was formed in the Fall of 2006 to begin a campaign to reach out to our alums. I would like to offer a special thank you to board members Karen Migdelany, chair of the Alumni Committee, and Lila Weihs, for their vision and time in entering over 3,000 names into a database. This task would not have been possible if not for the help of Elizabeth Roche, director of the Intel Computer Clubhouse.

The Board of Directors would like to extend a big "Thank you" to the dedication of our after-school and management staff, as the drop-in programs remain popular and in great demand by the girls in our Partnership Program.

In closing, I would like to thank our donors for their financial support, parents for entrusting their children to our care and the board of directors for their continued efforts to maintain our mission of inspiring all girls to be strong, smart and bold! We would love to have you contact us throughout the year for updates on what's happening at Girls Inc. or visit our new website at www.girlsincworcester.org.

Sincerely,
Dean S. Theodore
