Legup for NASA

August 5, 2010 - 9:34am -- leadacademy

Today we came to camp and went almost immediately to the stem lab. That is where we do experiments and build things. TOday we were supposed to do this program called leg up. This was supposed to simulat what it was like for the inside of your body to have no gravity and where on your body would be thinner and fatter. First we measured three different places on our legs the ankle calf, and thigh. Then we stood still for ten minutes and saw how that affected the measurments. After that we layed in a reclined position for ten minutes and wrote all the Data in a graph. WE had another activity next. That was building CEVs or Crew exploration vehicles. We had to design them an build them in a team. We got graph papaer and designed all  the different compartmens that you would need for living up in space. Lunch was next. We had Pizza from White City Pizza and cookies.  When lunch was over we had to pick our materials and start building. The materials were all recycled and we could use whatever we wanted. We picked out our materials and started building. We made fuel tanks and crew space and rocket boosters and landing gear and emergency cargo spaces. Ours could actually roll around . At the end of the day we presented our vehicle to the whole camp. Everyone had a different idea and everyones was cool. All in all today was a great day.
