Girls Inc has a great new partnership with UNUM for a girls' high school leadership development program. Our launch was last night when 9 girls joined Jen Roy from UNUM, Kijah Clark, Girls Inc's fearless Program Manager and myself (not so fearless) at the Central Rock Climbing Gym for a great night of fun!
After the climbing, we had pizza and planning for the next phases of the program. The girls BLEW US AWAY with their hopes for the outcomes of this program - wanting to be role models for the younger girls - wanting to make a difference in Worcester - wanting to support each other to reach beyond their current goals to new ones!
The first phase of the program includes community service projects with the UNUM staff and leadership at Thanksgiving and a Leadership Academy in January at UNUM and a great holiday party. In the meantime, this energetic and committed group of young women is meeting at Winthrop House to design and decorate our new Teen Room on October 6th. I have a meeting that same night with the Executive Committee of the Board - do you think the Board would miss me if I joined the girls for that project too!??!
As an added bonus, Channel 3's new crew was there last night and we had a great spot on lastnight's 10 and 11PM newscasts! Thanks Jen and Kijah and the very patient staff at Central Rockclimbing Gym!!
Do Kijah and I have great jobs or what!?!? ... BTW, I climbed twice, but you will never see the pictures that prove it!!
