Divas at the SIM Lab

August 2, 2010 - 3:34pm -- thinksmart

On July 3oth, a Friday, in the year 2010, the girls who were at the progam, "Davinci Divas" payed a visit to the medical school section of UMASS. We were givin a tour of the SIM labs. The SIM stands for Simutation. They have life like manniquens that can simulate situations for students in the medical feild. They can take blood, take IV, and take blood pressure like they could a normal person. They could really do anything they could a normal patient, but without the risks of doing it on a real person.

They had 5 simulation manniquens. One full sized adult male, one full sized child male, one half bodied adult male to simulate the cardio and respatory systems, one 3-6 month old baby, and one new born baby. Each had thier own purpouses, like the full sized adult male could simulate almost anything, from heart pain to not being able to breath. They could even make him talk so the students can really feel like it's real!

The weirdest thing was that one of the girl's father worked right across the hall, even though we didn't see him.

All in all the day was great and we got to ask a lot about the manniquens and see some really cool things that they do too!
