Building CEV's.

August 5, 2010 - 9:48am -- leadacademy

Yesterday, we build prototypes of CEV's. CEV stands for Crew Exploration Vehicle. CEV's are designed to send people up to space to explore. The picture below is an example of a CEV.

My team's CEV was called the Nebula, named after the planet that Buzz Lightyear ( yes, from Toy Story ) is from. We used a Minute Maid pink lemonade cardboard box as our base. We had solar panels off on the sides and a parachute as a landing system. Our rocket boosters were clear tubes glued onto the bottom and also in the same area we had a pod with storage for Cargo, Equipment, and Food. Our idea for the launching systems used springs.

To make our CEV, we used a lot of glue and mainly cardboard. One team made use of a Tide bottle and it was very interesting. It was called Tide To Go ( hahah ). Another team had a round-ish CEV. It was wrapped in tinfoil and they had a great design and idea. It had layers of heat protection and climate control. Unlike the circular one, there was a box shaped CEV. It was overall, a very fun, innovative day. (:
