Service Position: Mentoring Coordinator

Girls Inc. Mentoring Coordinator: AmeriCorps Ambassador of Mentoring

Mass Mentoring Partnership AmeriCorps Ambassadors of Mentoring support mentoring across the Commonwealth to improve positive outcomes for youth by building capacity in key program areas such as mentor recruitment, screening, and training. Projects focus on developing new or strengthening current mentoring programming to serve youth ages 7-24.

Mass Mentoring Partnership (MMP) is fueling the movement to expand empowering youth-adult relationships to meet the needs of communities across Massachusetts. MMP serves more than 370 programs statewide, supporting over 30,000 youth in quality relationships.

Position Description:

The Coordinator of the Girls Inc. Mentoring Program will be responsible for the preparation and submission of the Quality Based Membership Application to Mass Mentoring Partnership (MMP), including recruitment and retention strategy, match support, marketing, and enhancements to the current mentor program.

Responsibilities: 
  • Commute to monthly corps-wide trainings and events
  • Complete all required monthly AAoM documentation, including evaluation reports and timesheets
  • Complete all aspects of the Quality Based Membership Application to MMP.
  • Evaluate and enhance the current mentoring program started 4 years ago through development and implementation of recruitment and retention practices.
  • Implement all aspects of the Elements of Effective practice into the group mentoring program.
  • Participate in the After School Mentoring Program, meeting once a week with mentors and mentees.
  • Assist where needed in the recruitment and interviewing process of prospective mentors and mentees.
  • Design and conduct training programs for mentors, mentees and parents.
  • Provide ongoing match support to mentors and mentees to ensure child safety.
  • Work collaboratively with the afterschool staff to support comprehensive programming for mentoring participants.
Qualifications: 
  • Passion for working with diverse youth and families
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Experience with and/or commitment to youth development
  • Professional experience demonstrating knowledge of youth programming and best practices.
  • Organizational skills with attention to detail and maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to problem solve and collaborate with staff
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien
  • Must be willing to undergo a National Service Criminal History Check, including screenings through the National Sex Offender Public Website, a name-based search of the statewide criminal history registry and a fingerprint based FBI check. *Eligibility to participate in the AAoM program is contingent on the results of this screening
  • BA/BS strongly preferred or equivalent experience
  • A passion for volunteerism and community service
