The Davinci Divas program started on July 26 and will end July 30.   

We will explore the worlds of the arts & sciences and space – through the eyes of the man who invented the first airplane and helicopter - Leonardo DaVinci!

The program is headquartered at Girls Inc with day trips to the Worcester Art Museum, Ecotarium, UMass Regional Science Resource Center and more…

Calling All Middle School Girls for DaVinci Diva's and Goddard Girls Programs!

Calling all girls in middle school!!

There are still openings for you to register in a FREE science and technology program! 

The first week (July 26 - 30 from 9:00-4:00) will be DaVinci's Divas - the expansion and enhancement of last year's Lady Leonardos program which will infuse NASA and space projects into the program based on the seven principles of thinking like Leonardo DaVinci. Read more »

Last week was a really great week here at Girls Inc of Worcester. 

On Monday, I went to the Statehouse in Boston with Sandy Mayrand from UMass' Regional Science Resource Center for the announcement of the Summer of Innovation grants from NASA.  We are partnered with UMass for 2 great weeks of STEM programming in late July and early August. This morning on the steps of the Massachusetts State House, Governor Patrick and NASA Administrator Charles Bolden rolled out the Summer of Innovation program.  Massachusetts was only one of 4 states chosen for this program; there are six programs funded.  Girls Inc is the program partner with U Mass Medical School's Regional Science Resource Center for two weeks of programming this summer for middle school girls from Sullivan Middle School and Abby Kelley Foster Middle School.  Read more »

A Personal Note - Transitions

Dear Girls Inc Families and the Worcester Community:

It has been my privilege to serve as a leader of Girls Inc of Worcester for the past 17 months.  As you may have seen in today’s newspaper, last week I gave the Board of Directors my notice of resignation effective June 30, 2010.  The Board has committed to working together with me, the staff and the community to create a healthy and productive transition process.  Please know that they remain very supportive of the programs and our girls.  Read more »

Take Our Daughters (and Sons) to Work Day - April 22

Girls Inc of Worcester is taking the lead this year to celebrate Take Our Daughters to Work Day on Thursday, April 22, during spring vacation.  The day will start with a breakfast at Girls Inc with WPS Superintendent, Dr. Melinda Boone speaking on 1 Youth, 1 Dream, Tomorrow's Leaders.  After breakfast about 20 or so young women will leave with adult mentors and spend the day shadowing them to learn more about being a firefighter, a State Senator, a program director and more...   Read more »

Leadership Conference

On Wednesday, February 17, 2010 the GALS had their first Leadership Conference at UNUM Insurance Company.  Twelve GALS and four future GALS attended the conference.  The conference consisted of interviewing skills, etiquette and presentation, resume preparation and executive panel, and a working lunch.  The conference was a big success for all who attended. Today was a very creative day at Girls Inc of Worcester!  The 25 girls who participated in the Presidents' Day program pitched in with two adult (Gina Fleury and Kofi Poku) and two teen volunteers (Yaa and Adwoa Poku) to create masterpiece murals that will be proudly displayed in the Winthrop House lobby for months to come.  Read more »

January: A Month of Planning and Doing!

Happy 2010!  At Girls Inc of Worcester we are bringing the new year in by moving forward with our strategic planning process and updating the look of our Providence Street building with new windows in the Fuller Aquatics Center. 

The snows of a New England Winter can get some people down, but not us!  This month we have put the new windows in the pool area - partially funded by a grant from the United Way of Central MA.  The new glass block windows brighten the room and are a great addition - inside and out!  Read more »

SO MANY Holiday Presents to Share

Girls Inc's Holiday Celebration lasted all day long!  On Friday the 18th we started with a staff Christmas potluck lunch, Yankee Gift swap and special gift raffle!  It was great to have time together with ABUNDANT food, gift cards, a new baby and much laughter!!!

At 4PM we heard a hearty HO HO HO and Santa came to visit the girls and give them each a special gift AND a hand knit hat (really a great gift on a weekend like this one!)  Check out the pictures below! Read more »

Fabulously Successful Event at 55 Pearl

Vision, Values and our Strategic Plan

We have had a busy week at Girls Inc!  The Annual Meeting was last Wedneesday and we brought in a great group of new Board members, led by new President Victoria Waterman and including Dora and Akuah, the two young women who will be the youth representatives. 

We honored outgoing Board President Joan Bertrand, and Board Members Marcy Supovitz and Mary Goretti. The program included the rededication of George I Alden Hall, our renovated auditorium. Deborah Penta inspired us with her reflections on mentors along our life journey. Read more »
