January: A Month of Planning and Doing!

Fuller Aquatics Center

Happy 2010!  At Girls Inc of Worcester we are bringing the new year in by moving forward with our strategic planning process and updating the look of our Providence Street building with new windows in the Fuller Aquatics Center.

The snows of a New England Winter can get some people down, but not us!  This month we have put the new windows in the pool area - partially funded by a grant from the United Way of Central MA.  The new glass block windows brighten the room and are a great addition - inside and out!  Read more »

We have had a busy week at Girls Inc!  The Annual Meeting was last Wedneesday and we brought in a great group of new Board members, led by new President Victoria Waterman and including Dora and Akuah, the two young women who will be the youth representatives.

We honored outgoing Board President Joan Bertrand, and Board Members Marcy Supovitz and Mary Goretti. The program included the rededication of George I Alden Hall, our renovated auditorium. Deborah Penta inspired us with her reflections on mentors along our life journey. Read more »

Worcester Academy is an awesome neighbor!!  Little did I know when they invited me to be on their Board of Visitors that they were going to showcase Girls Inc's partnership with the Girls Varsity LaCrosse Team as part of the day!  When I asked why we were chosen for a dialogue with members Zoe Eth and Mary Claire Pelletier and Coach Erin Flynn, Carolyn Reich, Stewardship and Constituent Relations Officer told me that it was because so many of the girls had identified their work in this very new partnership as the most important and special service project Read more »

TD Banknorth invited our GREAT new program manager, Kijah Clark and myself to attend the Worcester Tornadoes game (against the Quebec Capitales!) tonight.  The evening started out with a picnic dinner and a visit from Twister the Tornadoes' cuddly mascot.  We were able to spend time with several of the friendly TDBanknorth staff - getting to know them better and thanking them for their growing support of our economic literacy program!!!  And we had a chance to catch up with a few of our nonprofit colleagues.  Great night!  And, a bit of the truth - we left before the game was over so
